Dinova

Improving security and building capacity for a leader in the preferred dining space

Dinova

Here is how Mightybytes helped Dinova achieve their goals of improved website security and a better user experience for their website management team.

Mightybytes worked within our budget parameters to create a website that meets the needs of multiple customer and internal stakeholder groups. Their approach to planning and communication helped us complete the project on schedule without blockers or unanticipated risks. We’re very happy with the end product and the efficiencies it has created for our team.

Key

Points

5

Months

Start to finish, the full redesign took five months to complete.

4

Years

We helped Dinova maintain the website for more than four years.

4

Security

Over time, we successfully thwarted at least four targeted security attacks.

Dinova is a technology company that operates a preferred dining network in the US. They wanted a website that empowered their team to create, publish, and better manage content, bolster SEO efforts, and improve website security.

Roadmapping

Workshop

We kicked off this engagement with a three-day workshop to understand Dinova’s needs and chart a course for their continued success.

Through numerous collaborative exercises, we learned about the company’s goals for the website redesign, their users’ needs and pain points, and specific features that could help them meet specific goals.

Dinova’s goals included:

  1. Streamline content workflow so Dinova staff can publish content independently
  2. Improve SEO infrastructure
  3. Improve website security
  4. Drive increases in key performance indicators (KPIs)
  5. Implement analytics solutions to monitor and improve site performance over time

With a product roadmap in place, our teams set to the task of designing and building Dinova’s new web presence.

Information

Architecture

A short information architecture workshop helped project stakeholders quickly come to consensus on the inventory of content types required for project success.

We used a site planning tool called Octopus to collaboratively map out site architecture. Running these exercises as a workshop improved efficiency, saved time and money, and helped us iterate quickly based on client feedback.

Content

Management

Easy website management without a constant need for technical support was a primary concern for Dinova.

We set out to help them address this concern through the following:

  • Custom Gutenberg blocks: We created custom blocks in WordPress allow Dinova’s team a high level of control in the content creation and formatting process, and prove to be invaluable for saving time and managing an aggressive publishing schedule.
  • Training: Mightybytes trained Dinova’s staff on how to utilize these custom blocks as well as those already built into WordPress
  • Training handbook: We also provided a training handbook to reference when they get stuck and to onboard new team members.

Content

Migration

Mightybytes built Dinova’s blog first so their team could enter and edit content as early as possible.

Training their team early to handle content migration enabled us to work on the build in parallel. By front-loading the most time-consuming elements of the redesign, we reduced time-to-launch and saved Dinova money.

The new design of Dinova’s dining guides enhance both user experience and content management.

This also allowed us to pursue items beyond the initial project scope. We added two features to the website:

Dinova creates dining guides that help organizations connect with restaurants based on set criteria, such as location, type of dining experience, and so on. By leveraging Gutenberg’s custom block features, we streamlined the creation of these dining guides and gave powerful customization tools to Dinova to improve user experience for each guide they create.

Modern

Design

The new site design supports a recent brand refresh, including an updated color palette, new imagery, typography, and so on.

The resulting website is more intuitive for users to find what they need and accomplish tasks. Plus, its flexible admin interface allows Dinova’s team to more quickly update content and streamline common marketing tasks.

Improving

Cybersecurity

Post-launch, Dinova and Mightybytes improved security by implementing a Content Security Policy (CSP) on the website.

A CSP prevents cross-site scripting, clickjacking, and other code injection attacks by directing website browsers to only execute code from specific sources designated by the CSP.

Dinova ran a website penetration test and provided the results to Mightybytes. This allowed us to identify and allocate tasks between Mightybytes and Dinova’s IT team.

We also implemented subresource integrity in Dinova’s WordPress environment by enforcing loading scripts through a security certificate.

With these steps, we prepared Dinova for success in an ever-changing cybersecurity environment.

Continued

Success

Through deep collaboration, Mightybytes and Dinova created and maintained a modern and easy-to-manage website that suits both their business goals and target users’ needs.

For more than four years, we helped Dinova manage an intuitive website until they could take ongoing tasks in-house. Clear information architecture and the ability to self-govern content creation and editing processes independently made the process easy when it came time to transition.
