Therapy Buzz
Parents of children with special needs have a new online resource for managing their child’s condition with this Drupal-based social network.
Collaborative treatment for children is at the heart of Therapy Buzz, a community-driven site that gives parents and care providers a secure place to exchange information and track progress of children who require additional support for their development.
OUR APPROACH
The mother of a child with special needs inspired us with her request to devise a solution that allows multiple therapists to securely and collectively share child care information. Using existing social networks as reference, we worked with her to conceptualize and build a secure, private area on the web where therapists and parents can collaborate and share information about a child in treatment. Privacy and security were top concerns, so researching how best to manage various permissions levels played an important role in designing a great user experience.
IMPLEMENTATION
We built the site on a Drupal platform, utilizing the Organic Groups module to manage permissions levels. Private pages are created for each individual child that is a part of the program and relevant content is shared based on whether you are a parent, therapist, school, clinic, and so on. The site also includes:
- Expert-authored articles on relevant topics like nutrition and pediatric neurology
- Individual user accounts and group accounts for schools and clinics
- A provider directory
- Subscription-based pricing model
THE RETURN
Now, parents of children with special needs can share their feelings, ideas, questions, and successes within a private, global community of other parents who are in the same situation. At the same time, child care providers can take a consistent approach to common goals while leveraging the expertise of each contributor.
