Ongoing creative collaboration is at the core of our relationship with fine art and travel photographer Barbara Levy Kipper.

Our relationship with Chicago fine art and travel photographer Barbara Levy Kipper is a testament to the power of good creative collaboration. Since 2003, we have undertaken a wide variety of creative endeavors together, including three different versions of her website, two gallery shows, hardware integration, software training, and a variety of brand identity projects. The result of this ongoing productive partnership has helped us push the boundaries of our own creative, strategic, and technical skills while helping Barbara grow and evolve as an artist.

OUR APPROACH

We listen intently and discuss each potential project in great detail with a focus on whether or not it makes sense for Barbara’s photography business and/or her own creative aspirations. Some projects never make it beyond an initial brainstorming session while others, like her website, become ongoing explorations that marry strategic, technical, and business management with artistic creativity and expression. If a particular project doesn’t fit with our core competencies we tap into our vast network of freelancers and other service providers to help bring the project to fruition.

IMPLEMENTATION

Here are a few accomplishments that we are proud of:

  • Barbara’s new site uses the Drupal CMS (past versions used Movable Type).
  • The new site provides an optimized photo-viewing experience for a variety of mobile devices.
  • Google Maps API integration allows for easy association of galleries with location.
  • Photo and gallery management is handled completely within the CMS (past versions used Photoshelter).
  • The site’s use of Typekit gives us complete control over typography.

Additionally, we have provided consulting in the following key areas:

  • Social media
  • Software training
  • Hardware integration
  • Photo management best practices
  • Content management

We are currently collaborating with Barbara on a set of books that showcase her travels and photography. These are scheduled for release in 2011.

THE RETURN

In 2008, version 2.0 of Barbara’s website won several industry awards for excellence in design and visual communication. We also helped coordinate gallery shows with the Anne and Jacques Baruch Collection and FLATFILEgalleries in 2006 and 2007. Barbara’s work continues to receive accolades and has been featured in On Center magazine, in Myths and Mountains’ travel catalogs, and The Joffrey Ballet: An American Classic, a hardcover book commemorating the 50-year anniversary of the world-renown ballet company. Barbara was also instrumental in our collaboration with Joffrey Ballet to build their website as well. Mightybytes is proud of this ongoing partnership that allows each party to bring their best to the table. We look forward to collaborating with Barbara on the evolution of her craft for years to come.
