Infinitely Sliding Tiles with jQuery

The original Mightybytes site had a section which would pull random quotes about the company and display them in a container. The quotes were hard coded into an XML file, and as we moved the site over into Expression Engine, I wanted to move the quotes into the system as well. A cool back-end redesign deserves an even cooler front-end redesign, so I created a gadget which could cycle through all the quotes in the system. My concept was an infinitely scrolling system of tiles, which would slide in the direction indicated by the user. In mid-June I was sent on a last minute trip to France for a video shoot with barely a week’s notice. I know that sounds like a bit of poor planning, but yup, it happens. Our client—a not-for-profit research group on the fast track to finding a functional cure for diabetes—was having its annual meeting just outside of Geneva, Switzerland and about a week before the meeting decided it was a good idea for me to tag along and interview the scientific team about their work.
