AEP Digital Publishing Summit

The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) held their annual Digital Publishing Summit at the JW Marriot in the heart of Washington DC in early June. Educational publishers make up a large part of Mightybytes’ client base, so naturally we jumped at the chance to be an exhibitor when offered the opportunity by some key AEP players (thanks Dave and Doug!). Being a trade show exhibitor was a new experience for us, but our friends at Shakespeare Squared, seasoned publishing trade show veterans, held our hands through the entire process and made our inaugural foray into exhibitionism a painless process (thanks Stacy, Megan and Kim!). While much of my time was spent…Read more »

I joined Tim at the Association of Educational Publishers summit in Washington D.C., and l rapidly began to long for more detailed technical descriptions to underscore the dreamy futurism of the session speakers. The summit was, after all, a meeting of mostly non-technical publishers discussing the breakdown of the traditional publishing model, and pontificating about the what the industry is to do. Our friends at Shakespeare Squared made the outing quite enjoyable, but for a coder, the speakers lacked details. “Of course the iTunes model will apply to digital textbooks, of course the data will be stored in XML,” I thought,  “Let’s see some specs!” Alas, no details were forthcoming. Only…Read more »

I was looking at the details and specs provided to us by one of our clients for a new project the other day and noticed something that made me want to dance in the streets. That’s somewhat rare for me. Not the dancing in the streets part, that seems to happen all the time. The fact that the specs for a new job got me to put on my dancing shoes though, that was something special. Worth blogging about even. Without getting into too many of the mind-numbing technical details, the basic word from the client was that the very large animation they wanted could be delivered either as a flash…Read more »

Not Too Flashy…Yet

Posted by mightybytes in Development, Video Production

When I sat down to begin my first Adobe Flash project for my new employer, Mightybytes Inc., feelings of apprehension, discomfort, and general befuddlement came over me. Maybe it was the foreign interface or lines of incomprehensible ActionScript that I’d never laid eyes on before. Or perhaps it was the stark room in which I sat alone, just earshot away from co-workers’ carefree laughing in the next room. If I looked a little more anxious than usual, it was because I had no flipping idea what I was doing. I’d never worked on any sort of “Professional” Flash project before. Truth is, I hadn’t worked on ANY sort of Flash project…Read more »
