Social Media News: LinkedIn integrates with Twitter

by Stacy

LinkedIn and Twitter announce the integration of status updates, where users can set up their accounts to post status updates across both outlets in real-time. The feature begins tonight and rolls out gradually over the next couple of days.

How to do it
LinkedIn: check the Twitter box under the Network Updates box and click through the brief set-up process.
Twitter: Choose to send all or your selected tweets only to LinkedIn as a status update. If you choose selected tweets, you must add the #li or #in hashtag to each tweet to post to LinkedIn.

Allen Blue writes on the LinkedIn blog, “LinkedIn has always been about helping you to build your professional identity on the web. The many elements that make up your online professional brand range from your LinkedIn profile to the many professional conversations you’re a part of. Status has proved valuable to our users, from finding new assignments and jobs to kick-starting a global business enterprise.”

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter says, “the business use case of Twitter is turning out to be very important…The persona they create for themselves on the web is part of their resume.” Stone refers to LinkedIn and Twitter being as complimentary as “peanut butter and chocolate.”
Biz Stone (Twitter) and Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn) discuss the integration in a video on the LinkedIn blog. The blog also gives a quick rundown on how to set up the features on both media outlets with screengrabs.

With LinkedIn being known as the professional networking social media outlet, its integration with Twitter could mean business deals happen faster than ever and jobs tweeted could be filled in moments. Are human resources managers ready for this?

Here’s our question: how many social faces do we all have?
Do you have multiple social media “faces” or do you just put it all out there?
As we connect more, will we say less?
