Not Too Flashy…Yet
by mightybytes
When I sat down to begin my first Adobe Flash project for my new employer, Mightybytes Inc., feelings of apprehension, discomfort, and general befuddlement came over me. Maybe it was the foreign interface or lines of incomprehensible ActionScript that I’d never laid eyes on before. Or perhaps it was the stark room in which I sat alone, just earshot away from co-workers’ carefree laughing in the next room.
If I looked a little more anxious than usual, it was because I had no flipping idea what I was doing. I’d never worked on any sort of “Professional” Flash project before. Truth is, I hadn’t worked on ANY sort of Flash project ever. Days before, I was secretly plotting to master the program at a prodigy’s pace (and mightily impress my superiors), but this improbable vote of self-confidence wore off extremely fast as I waded waist-deep into the mind muck of faulty symbols, ActionScript errors, and a slew of other snares.
Today, I don’t know much more than I did during that maiden voyage into Flashdom. Well, I actually know a lot more, but because Flash has such vast and complex capabilities, a lot of knowledge is still a small fraction of the whole.
