MightyRide: Our “Bike to Work Week” Commuter Challenge
by Jeff Livorsi
MightyRide 2012 has come upon us and Team Mightybytes was ready to go.
Leading up to this week I was really looking forward to the Bike Commuter Challenge. Most importantly I was looking forward to MightyRide 2012. In a nutshell here are the details of our MightyRide.
Date: Wednesday, June 13
Time: 8AM
Location: Corner of North Ave and Clark Street
Route: Head North on Clark Street until we reach the office (5347 N. Clark Street)
Distance: 5.1 miles
The politics of bike to work week is something that I feel all Mightybytes employees agree with. It’s not just about getting on your bike for 5 days and riding to work. Cycling advocacy and alternative forms of transportation is a big part of it. But lets be real, biking in the city is a lot of fun.
Team Mightybytes truly believes in the Active Transportation Alliance’s mission of making bicycling, walking and public transit so safe, convenient and fun that we can achieve a significant shift from environmentally harmful active travel. They also advocate for transportation that encourages and promotes safety, physical activity, health, recreation, social interaction, and resource conservation. Hopefully this week can open people’s eyes (ours and others) to how biking around the city of Chicago is better for the environment and your overall health.
The ride started with Bryan and I meeting up at the Chicago History Museum, and not too long after Gretchen pulled up with a rear flat tire. It wasn’t long before we heard from the rest of the team via text message where we were picking them up along the route.
Tim, Peter, and Stephanie were conveniently wandering around the Green City Market (where Clark Street and Lincoln Avenue meet). Tim even began networking at 8AM dressed in his bike outfit. After a little bit of coffee, cliff bars, bananas, and cookies we were on our way to pick up Kris and James.
It was quite an eventful bike ride up to the office. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and a better ride. We all had a blast as you can tell from the video below. Until next year when we do this again. Happy Biking!
