Facebook.me: Mini-blogs

by Stacy Jones Sutton

There’s been a lot of hubub about Facebook changes this week stemming from the events of f8, the Facebook Developers conference.

Among these, some of which are live on facebook already are:

1. Changes to FB privacy (again)
2. Facebook Connect: which introduced 24 partner sites that you can allow for a personalized experience.

Note: this feature is by default enabled on your profile already. If you choose to turn it off:

  • Log into Facebook
  • Go to Account
  • Privacy Settings
  • Applications & Websites
  • Instant Personalization and Edit Settings

3. Facebook.me, a new mini-blog feature. It’s described as a version of your Facebook profile pushed onto your own site to control stories, likes, comments in a themed environment. Right now, three themes are available: The Web-2.0 Rush, the Photostream and the Glide.

Here’s a great post summary of the f8 Facebook announcements on Mashable.com.

The Facebook.me feature is the one in which we are most interested. It’s a ‘mini-blog’ function created by Facebook developers using a web app they built for a third-party site to display your profile information with respect to your Facebook privacy settings. The app is their own Graph API, and it was previewed at the f8 conference.

We anticipate it should work as a great way to extend your visibility and communication to your audiences in a more personalized way.
