Arts Organization Profile: Lessons in Creativity I of II with The Neo-Futurists

I continue the exploration of art as expression and communication as part of the mBlog series in support of Chicago Artists Month with a two-part blog on Lessons in Creativity from The Neo-Futurists Theater in Chicago.

Lessons in Creativity is the fall event held by the Neo-Futurists. “How the world’s most wildly productive ensemble creates 30 plays in 60 minutes, 50 weeks per year.”

I spoke with Lindsay Muscato, Managing Director, about how sharing their creative process culminated into this special event. “We realized there was a cross-over between what we do and what people wanted to learn about creativity in their lives and work.” Sara Nelson featured the creative process of the theater organization in a thesis, and then the group was invited to present to design consulting firm, Adaptive Path, and later State Farm. They also shared their process with IDEO, and learned more about the design consulting process from their perspective. The Neo-Futurists offer presentations to companies on-site on their process of exploring how to create inspired, fresh work quickly, individually, and collaboratively.

“Our team process in creativity transfers well to any creative environment. It’s about teamwork, working together, switching roles, where everyone learns everyone else’s part.” Muscato says.
