It’s Official! Mightybytes is a Three-Star Certified Green Business

Green news is good news!

Eco-Andersonville just announced Mightybytes as its newest green-certified business in review of our commitment to making a positive impact on People, Planet, and Prosperity throughout all business practices. The three-star certification is the highest level that Eco-Andersonville offers and we are thrilled that all our efforts in ‘greening’ Mightybytes as we moved into the new office space are paying off.

Mightybytes is strongly committed to making our business as close to carbon neutral as possible and supporting Eco-Andersonville’s initiatives of ‘People-Planet-Prosperity’. All members of our company believe in helping the environment and working toward a sustainable future. We discuss (and implement) the best ways possible to integrate our efforts with daily business practices on a regular basis.

As part of our recent move to a new Andersonville space we implemented the following practices:

  • Energy Star-rated appliances
  • VOC-free paint on all walls
  • Green-certified, energy efficient technology infrastructure
  • Energy-efficient lighting
  • Power conservation
  • Water conservation
  • Cleaning with environmentally-friendly products
  • Full recycling system for paper, glass, plastic, metal, etc.
  • Shifting a portion of financial investment to a locally-owned bank
  • We are also in the process of updating the water flow systems on our toilet and sink faucets as well as purchasing office furniture that is partially made of recycled materials.

Each year, Eco-Andersonville asks certified businesses to make a sustainability goal. Here’s what Mightybytes will be focusing on over the next year:

  • Conserve: continue our commitment to getting as close to carbon-neutral as possible by conserving energy, recycling and buying local, environmentally-friendly products and services whenever possible.
  • Educate: continue to educate ourselves, our staff, our clients, and our community about green business practices and share what we learn with others.
  • Improve: continue to re-evaluate our approach iteratively to make sure we are complying with best practices for businesses like ours.

The Eco-Andersonville green certification program is like few other neighborhood programs in the country and has sparked interest from other urban areas as a potential blueprint for supporting sustainability on a local level. Visit a few of eco-Andersonville certified businesses.

Our Holiday Donation: Planting Trees in American Forests

In the spirit of giving and growing a healthier world, we just made a holiday donation to American Forests in honor of our clients, friends and family this year.

Founded in 1875, American Forests is the nation’s oldest nonprofit conservation organization. Protecting and restoring forests globally and raising awareness of how important these ecosystems are to all forms of life on the planet, Global ReLeaf is their tree planting program to restore damaged forest ecosystems in sites across the country and around the world.

Our donation will help cover the costs of planting up to 500 trees that will help provide cleaner air and water, protection from sun and storms, and offer habitats for endangered species. These trees will help save energy, money, and tax dollars, and will reduce our “carbon debt.” Trees enrich our lives by simply being there. Here are Ten Reasons to Plant Trees that may surprise you.

Visit American Forests Resources to learn more about their efforts to plant a healthier, growing world:

Give the gift of trees through a donation to American Forests.

Happy Holidays to all of you. May your 2011 be healthy, happy, and evergreen!

Over 590,000 people visit the Business Insider site per month according to Quantcast reports. This article features strategy and content in part based on Tim’s book, Return on Engagement: Content, Strategy and Design Techniques for Digital Marketing which has racked up more than a handful of gold star reviews in Amazon’s review section.

This was the second piece of Tim’s that Business Insider published, the first post being the ‘Ten Tips for Maximizing your Twitter Account’ that originally appeared on our blog. Business Insider has found our content useful enough that they have requested permission to re-publish a handful of other blog posts as well. Drupal Presentation by Steve Persch Nov 18

What does drupal have to do with a fish in a blender, you ask?

Come find out at the Chicago Drupal Meetup. Our very own Steve Persch will present on the topic of “Using Multigroup in CCK 3.”

  • WHEN: November 18th, 2010
  • TIME: 7:00 PM
  • WHERE: Chicago, IL

Join Chicago Drupal MeetUp for location information and more info.

A new version of a classic Drupal module, the Content Construction Kit allows site builders to add fields to their content. The yet unofficial CCK 3 for Drupal 6 provides a great way to tie multiple fields together in repeating groups. This presentation will go over how to add a “Multigroup” to a content type and how to build Views with Multigroup.

You can find Steve throughout the Drupal ecosystem under the username stevector. Strike up a conversation at the Meetup by asking him why he recently built a site using Zen and four layers of subthemes, or why Mightybytes uses the same SVN repository for most of their Drupal projects. You can also just ask him to gush about Drush.

Chicago Drupal MeetUp, Nov. 18th Estimated Agenda:

  • 7:00 - Arrival and socialize
  • 7:10 - Drupalcon Chicago: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How?
  • 7:30 - Presentation: Fredric Mitchell - CTools and AJAX Cache
  • Break with Q&A
  • 8:15 - Presentation: Steve Persch - Using Multigroup in CCK 3
  • 9:15 - Q&A then beers next door?

Learn more and register to attend at the Chicago Drupal MeetUp site.
